Meet Monique Holland

Interior designer Monique Holland is an artist at heart! She likes interiors that are timeless, elegant and sophisticated. Professionally designed window treatments are an important part of Monique’s design services.

You can expect Monique to be honest and professional. Her listening skills and easy-going personality ensure that working with her is a joy. Monique offers full service interior design and her excitement over your project will shine through with a vision of your new space.

Monique has been decorating residential and commercial spaces in the DC area for over twenty years.  She loves the design process, managing client expectations with ease through regular communication. A full design project has many parts and Monique will organize everything with vendors and installers so that you don’t have to.

Many of Monique’s clients are professionals and don’t have the time to manage a complex project on top of busy careers. As a client, all you have to do is make the fabric and furnishing choices, then leave everything to Monique and her design team. On reveal day you can expect to come home to an amazing space that you’ll want to spend time in.

Curtains & Draperies

Having the correct window treatments depend on several factors: the room, the shape of the window and its position to the sun, the style you prefer, and the drapery’s purpose.

Window treatments will last for many years and serve many purposes — they keep the sun out and the warmth in; they help protect your floors, rugs and furniture from fading; they add pizzazz to any room, completing the overall design.

They can be practical too. Today’s fabrics offer room darkening options for people who need to sleep in daylight hours such as doctors, nurses and firefighters. Also, many fabrics are stain resistant — perfect defense from kids and pets.

If you prefer a simple look, you can hang stationary drapery panels each side of the window, framing it, usually in combination with a blind or shade. Adding embellishment such as fringe or contrasting tape will change the mood of the room from formal to romantic to casual.

We are also able to help with difficult shaped windows, such as bay windows. Bay windows offer the perfect placement for a small seating area or reading nook while taking advantage of the views outside your home.

In the Washington DC area many people have very high ceilings. Monique has experience with designing luxury window treatments for tall windows and it shows in her creativity.

Top Treatments

Full length draperies are not suitable for every application because in a kitchen, for instance, they may get dirty; in a bathroom there may not be floor space. But in most cases Holland Custom Designs can design a top treatment that will soften the hard edges of a window, hide the mechanics of another layer, and draw focus to the window.

There are several choices of top treatment to explore:

  • Pole and swag
  • Swags
  • Valances
  • Cornice boards
  • Balloon valance
  • Lambrequin
  • Awning

Draperies and top treatments can be further embellished with custom trim that will add an interesting and individual look to the finished product.

Blinds, Shades & Shutters

Whether you’re moving to a new home or updating your existing home, the first thing you’ll want to do is cover the windows for privacy. Call our window treatment specialists who will show you the many different styles of blinds and shades, and discuss the pros and cons of each, for your windows. Holland Custom Designs has several options for blinds and shades to show you, and experience in motorization.

Window shutters are extremely versatile and can look modern, transitional or traditional depending on how and where you use them. The ultimate multitasking window-treatment styles range from real wood and hybrid shutters to UV-resistant shutters that are guaranteed to withstand extreme heat, humidity and high-traffic areas.

Silhouette® Window Shadings from Hunter Douglas (shown here) have been the leader in light diffusion with specially crafted fabrics that transform harsh sunlight into beautiful ambient light. With no cords or tapes, the sheer facings allow you to view through the vanes to the outside, while maintaining a discreet level of privacy.

There are so many choices in window shades that help from a specialist is priceless. Monique looks forward to having the privilege of assisting you with your window treatment project!
