Aging in Place

CAPS CERTIFICATION

Holland Custom Designs has recently received CAPS certification as an Aging In Place Specialist, expanding our Biophilic Design services to support clients and their families. We aim to reframe what we think aging in place really is and encompasses. This goes beyond wheelchairs, grab bars and stair lifts; it’s about creating environments that support our physical, emotional and social well-being. The truth is that we are all aging in place. Some clients are empty nesters who may have health issues or suddenly have sick parents that they need to care for. Some have family members with cognitive or sensory issues. Our service ensures safety, enhancing functionality of homes, and maintains a sense of belonging and pride in the home.

Why Hire Us?

Home is where we feel most comfortable, where cherished memories are made, and where most older adults wish to spend their later years. According to the University of Michigan’s National Poll on Healthy Aging, 88% of adults aged 50 and older prefer to remain in their homes for as long as possible. However, ensuring a safe and accessible living environment becomes increasingly important as mobility and health needs change with age.

To successfully age in place, seniors and their families may need to consider modifications that enhance safety, convenience, and comfort. This is where a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) can be invaluable. These professionals are trained to assess homes and recommend strategic design changes, such as wider doorways, no-threshold showers, improved lighting, and slip-resistant flooring, all tailored to support aging individuals while maintaining the beauty and functionality of their space.

By working with a CAPS-certified professional, families can create an environment that not only meets immediate needs but also anticipates future challenges. Whether through small adjustments or larger renovations, investing in thoughtful, senior-friendly design allows older adults to maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life in the place they call home.
