NYC Award Weekend

As part of her Designer of the Year award, Monique and her husband traveled to New York City to meet some interesting people and take in the sights. Staying at the New York Marriott Marquis on Times Square started the celebratory trip with champagne and chocolates!

Some quick highlights were:

• Meeting House Beautiful Managing Editor Olivia Haskins.
• Lunch at Bergdorf Goodman.
• Touring the Good Housekeeping Institute.
• Lunch at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
• Dinner at Sardi’s.
• Seeing Chicago the Musical on Broadway.
• Visiting Tiffany & Co.

Designer of the Year 2022

Monique Holland, owner of Holland Custom Designs was named Designer of the Year, the highest design award presented by Decorating Den Interiors, at the recent DESIGNCON 2022 held this year in Myrtle Beach.

The modern design of a dining space with bold wallcovering was judged best in category in the annual Dream Room competition, and the overall best of 300 entries in 10 categories.

Entries are judged by interior design journalists from the U.S. and Canada. Holland Custom Designs also took home first-place home office, second-place family room, and won in three other categories.

With everything going on in the world, many people have had to completely redesign their lives when telework and virtual learning became our daily norm. Simply Alexandria were able to chat with renowned interior designer Monique Holland of Holland Custom Designs to learn a little bit more about how she and her team help bring your vision to life.

Asked how her business had grown with the pandemic Monique responded that her company has had unexpected growth. As people were finding themselves at home and realizing that they may be there for a while they began scheduling consultations to determine how they could make their spaces more functional.

Clients are also now more focused on the functionality while searching for ways to improve their spaces. Monique expanded that she had been able to bring on new hires and had moved to larger premises.

Attendees spent a fun afternoon learning how color and light are key elements of interior design. Monique Holland of Holland Custom Designs also taught, through a demonstration of different light bulbs, how the correct lighting can add the finishing touches to a beautiful space.
